“Heartfelt Faith”

Categories: Text Today

10 for with the heart [a person] believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:10)

Paul points out that it is with the heart that a person believes unto righteousness. Salvation is not merely based on a whim or an intellectual exercise. Salvation must rest on a genuine, bona fide heartfelt faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ Who was sent by the Father to be “the” sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved," Paul told the Philippian jailer - for God gave His only begotten Son into the world "that whosoever believes on Him shall be saved."

  1. How does Romans 10:10, which states that belief is from the heart, which results in righteousness, comport with Jeremiah 17:9, which says "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure ...", and Mark 7:20-23, which states "...What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean'. For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean'. -- Roger Swenson
